The high-definition remake of "CrossFire HD" requires a lot more hardware configuration than the original "CrossFire". The original version can be played very smoothly even with a core display, but "CrossFire HD" wants to reach an average level. , 1080p requires a GTX 1660-level graphics card, while 2K resolution requires an RTX 2060/RX graphics card. The size of the game has also expanded to 39GB. Although the official hardware configuration requirements are not given, it is rarely seen in downloads. So we decided to do a separate game loading test of "Crossfire HD" to see how much startup time it takes to put the game folder on SSD and HDD.

Test platform and instructions

The test platform uses Intel Core i7-processor, paired with DDR4-3600 16GB*2 memory, the timing is CL 18-22-22-42, and the graphics card is RTX 3080 Ti. The system is not installed in the tested disk; In a PCI-E 4.0 SSD, use the same system to load the "CrossFire HD" game from different hard drives, which can reduce system interference.

The tested disks include the more common NVMe SSD, SATA SSD, and HDD. Considering that some people may use laptops to play games and put the games into external PSSD, PSSD was also added for comparison this time.

The SSDs used are all products of Zhiti, a brand of Yangtze Storage, including the NVMe standard PC005, the SC001 using the SATA interface, and the mobile SSD Jupiter 10, while the HDD is a 2TB Seagate one.

ZhiTi PC005 uses 1TB, which is a Peugeot M.2 2280 SSD, using PCI-E 3.0×4 channel, supporting NVMe 1.3 specification, continuous reading speed/s, continuous writing speed/s, It is a flagship PCI-E 3.0 product. Benchmark Performance Test

Before starting the game loading test of "CrossFire HD", let's first take a look at the basic performance of these tested disks, so that everyone can have a general understanding of their performance. We only briefly tested the real performance test of CDM. And with the addition of 70/30 mixed reading and writing, QD1's low queue reading and writing is more in line with the actual situation when the game is loaded.

Game loading is basically a read operation. Let’s just look at the read performance. ZhiTi PC005 using PCI-E 3.0 x4 is of course the best. The continuous read speed of QD1 reaches /s. The acquisition delay is only 65us. For old machines without M.2 interface, you can only use SATA SSD. "CrossFire HD" game loading test

Next is the real thing. We put the "CrossFire HD" folders into each test drive to test the startup time of the game. When starting the game on a certain hard drive for the first time, the platform will prompt you to deeply optimize the startup game. At first, I thought it would transfer some game files to the system disk to speed up the startup. Later, after actual observation, I found that all read and write operations were performed locally on the tested disk. It was probably just optimizing the file structure. Each disk will be optimized once before testing. After optimization, it will be restarted before testing.

Since starting a new game will be affected by matching and network delays, and the loading time of each game is not long, we only tested the game startup time of "Crossfire HD", starting from the platform click to start the game , until the in-game reminder clicks the space to skip the animation. The test is manually timed with a stopwatch, so the average time will be calculated three times. The computer will be restarted to clear the memory before each game is started.

"CrossFire HD" is one of the few games that can reflect the performance gap between NVMe SSD and SATA SSD. When the game is installed in Titanium PC005, the game startup time takes 36 seconds, while when it is installed in SATA SC001, it takes 39 seconds to start. If you put the Jupiter 10 mobile SSD, the startup time will become 50 seconds. If you put the game in the HDD, the startup time will be as long as 107 seconds, and this is already a 7200 rpm HDD.
